The World Produces 92 Million Tons of Textile Waste each year. 60% of all new clothing materials are actually Plastic.87% of materials used to make clothing end up in a landfill. That’s one truckload every second.

Beyond Landfills and Mountains of textile waste, another grave global problem needs addressing.

Women are gathering to discuss the stigmatized issue of period poverty. Globally affecting 800 million girls/women each month.

Period Poverty is when one can not afford or access adequate amounts of sanitary supplies and underwear.

Transformation Textiles coordinates with garment manufacturers to provide underwear and sanitary pad pre-cuts to dignity projects. These factory pre-cuts are distributed to initiatives and Women Led Enterprises to make local sustainable reusable pads.

Women groups also use pre-cuts as patterns to to make additional sanitary products from upcycled t-shirts. A single shirt can be upcycled into so many pads, that a woman can be fresh and clean as often as she wants.

Reusables can be for private use as well as create opportunities for enterprise in local communities. Exploring possibilities with local entrepreneurs.

Wholistic Women’s Workshops involve all members of a community and are done in multiple settings from workplaces to community centers. Each workshop participant is empowered with tools to share knowledge within their own circles.

In this workshop, 2 case studies of using textile precuts to promote dignity programs in Kenya and Egypt will be presented and some of the initial impacts this has made on women’s ability to reduce their period poverty.
