Resilience and Resourcefulness
This is what resilient women look like who want to learn a skill ... like tailoring ... but don’t even have fabric to learn on ... recycling a plastic bag to make a dress until they are good enough to practice on cloth.
I am continually amazed and humbled at the lengths women & girls will go to, to reach their potential.
They don’t settle for the excuse that they don’t have this or that ... they use what is in their hand to get started. It is to this caliber of women that we train ... to train others who will train others.
Dignity. Hope. Opportunity.
They are not seeing a hand out ... only a hand of partnership.
I am honored to introduce you to Millicent. She definitely meets the above description.
When this photo was taken in Kenya, she had just joined this tailoring school 45 days before, and is now learning to make beautiful tailored dresses ... even though she didn't have enough fabric to practice on. She was so resourceful and practiced on plastic bags! This dress is now a treasured possession of mine, and serves as a reminder of resilience and resourcefulness.
Girls and Women are powerful ... they don't want hand-outs ... they just want a hand of partnership.
Millicent ... an honor to meet you at last ... I knew there was a 'you' ...
