Leveraging mass manufacturing and creating a circular economy!
Transformation Textiles works with Mass garment factories in their #zerowaste program that "Redeems Waste to Transform Lives".
Trainees who have no sewing experience enter the program, and while learning to sew on textile off-cuts, they are actually making real products - Dignity Kits. Dignity kits are reusable sanitary solutions that are distributed to vulnerable women who lack access to such things. For the trainee, they feel like a Nobel Peace prize winner, for as they are improving their own skills and job security of becoming a full-time sewing operator at a large factory, they are also changing the world. Massive amounts of textile off-cuts used for making the dignity products, are saved from entering landfills.
In this video, I became a "trainee for a day", to test my own ability to sit behind an industrial machine and become skilled at sewing a straight hem fast. I was producing some of the training tapestries, for our partnering charity "For Her Dignity" who offers powerful training tools for Menstrual Health promoters in the various across multiple countries, within vulnerable communities that lack access to sanitary protection.
